Amoeba seeks
to engage in artistic integrity and excellence in all of its performance endeavors and is particularly interested in the relevance
of performance to social and cultural concerns. We strive to explore these issues in explosive theatrical form as well as
in content with and for international communities. We aim to create theatre and performance workshops that push the boundaries
of devised theatre, playwriting and production, while at the same time participate in local education.
|
 |
Our workshops
are suitable for any individual who wishes to explore his or her expressive and
creative ability. Theatre Amoeba offers training drawn from the pedagogy of
Jacques Lecoq for up to two months in duration to students and professionals of ages and levels of experience.

Storytelling
Fuse music, movement, narration. This workshop allows students
to tap into their own culture and interests. Working with pantomime, live music and sound effects, narrators and classic storytelling
structures, the workshop concludes with the creation of a short fully-realized presentation. This workshop varies in
length and can be offered as a tool to devise a fully realized performance. The Red Nose
The clown is an eternal innocent. Some believed that he was idiotic… But it is false; he is filled with wonder, surprises,
and enjoys the smallest things of the poetry of life. This poetry, he finds it in a flower, a chair and even in a stone. The
clown is a child! And like him, he is thrown in the life with good mood and ease. The workshops of clown will be based on the foundations of Jacques Lecoq pedagogy which is based
on a personal research that will help each pupil to find his/her own clown.
We
focus on the opening of space. We distribute also the smallest mask (red nose) with all its history and the students begin
the search for his/her clown with the assistance of the confrontation of the white clown who is an authoritative figure.
This will lead to a creation process in which clowns are devided into groups. Each group
will invent or work on a small scene of 3 min. Our clowns will have the pleasure and the difficulty in playing in front of an audience;
they will also have the opportunity to work with costumes and props. Clown Me In "Clown Me In" is a workshop focusing on the personal
rebuilding, developing and exploring humour and laughter as well as learning to let go, to say yes, to look at our wounds,
frustrations and weak points in a non-judgemental and comfortable atmosphere. This workshop is led by Sabine Choucair
from Theatre Amoeba along with Gabriella Munoz from "Trupe Da Lua".

Creation with Recycled
Items Don’t throw it away… bring it to the theatre! Learn
to develop a vocabulary for making visually striking theatre that combines materials, performers, and actions. Students bring
a found item to use in the development of a piece that links object and action from its inception. The workshop will culminate
with a live performance. Animals, Elements and Materials: Starting from a point of neutrality, we will do a series of improvisations
that explore the poetry of the everyday. The exercises explore the four elements, materials and animals as a source for movement
analysis and foundations for building a character. This workshop gives a foundation that will provide a palette of skills
for the actor. Students will present a laboratory performance.
A Lecoq Intensive, Mask Play Discover
the levels and structures of mask play. A mask demands that the actor support it, fill it, be led by it. Pre-conceived ideas
will not play. Working with a variety of masks and styles, participants will hone performance skills such as presence, sensory
awareness, spontaneity, clarity of gesture, and the ability to motivate, fullbodied physical action. This journey into mask
play will also address mask-making and each student will leave the workshop with an individual maquette - a base for customized
masks.
Digital Storytelling Theatre Amoeba is partering with AL-JANA organisation (Lebanon) to run a series of international storytelling workshops. Al-JANA/ARCPA works with communities
that face marginalization in Lebanon in building on their strengths, and documenting and disseminating their empowering experiences
and cultural contributions. Stemming from its work in the arts, AL-JANA also produces learning and creative resources by and
for children and youth.
